Notes
a. Note:   Edwin Wilhelm Pahlow's 1917 passport application states that his father, Friedrich Ludwig Pahlow, "emigrated to the United States from the port of Stettin, on or about April 30th 1843..."
I do not believe this was the date the ship left port for America, but rather, this is the date the Pahlow family left their home in Warnow and began their trip to America. There was a large group of "Old Lutheran" emigrants, about 1600, that came to America in 1843. The vast majority of these emigrants traveled by land to Hamburg where they boarded ships bound for America. The Pahlow family sailed on the same ship as Pastor Kindermann. In the book "Die Altlutherische Auswanderung um die Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts" (by Wilhelm Iwan), there is a record that states Pastor Kinderman arrived in Hamburg in early May.
It is not known if the Pahlow family and Pastor Kindermann boarded the ship in Stettin which then sailed to Hamburg before continuing on to America, of if they followed the land route to Hamburg and the Bark Ajax sailed from Stettin to Hamburg where it picked up passengers for the trip to America. There are documented accounts of ships from 1843 sailing from Hamburg to New York arriving in 6-8 weeks. This means the Ajax would have departed Hamburg between 11 Jul 1843 and 25 Jul 1843.
