Note: He was John (Thomas?)Pallister = Annie Crosier. His mother's maiden name was possibly Rabbit or Rabbet. He was a Justice of the Peace. John and Annie had about eleven children including I believe three sets of twins. The ones I actually knew were John (my Grandfather), Sarah Jane, Ester, Mary and Annie who were my great Aunts. They lived at Brooke House Farm in Old Malton which might have been inherited from Tommy Rabbit. The farm was leasehold and eventually was claimed back by Earl Fitzwilliam's estate. Of all the children only my Grandfather had any descendents to pass on the family name but I did once hear that we had relatives living at Sherriff Hutton. [Pat Gorringe by email 31/3/2000 "Patricia Gorringe" <pat@@pgorringe.freeserve.co.uk>] Yes you have the right Annie Crosier as I know she was working at what is now the vicarage but at that time was the Headmaster's house, but what date is this information, it could not be the same 1881 census as by then she is married and is the mother of all those children? >From Page 2, These Pallisters I know nothing about but they could be related, I never heard mention of them. Yes you have the right Thomas (Tommy) Rabbitt Farmer of 48 acres. This farm was inherited from Tommy who appears to have no relations mentioned. This would account for the increase in wealth and status of John Pallister. This is where the biggest mystery lies. The relationship between Tommy and John! Tommy may have been his uncle or cousin but there was definitly a family connection. It may stem from the marriage between Thomas Pallister and Sarah Rabbitt at Malton in 1834. Old Malton is a small village once the site of a Gilbertine Priory dating from 1151. It was disolved by Henry VIII but the church (made a bit smaller) and some of the original buildings still remain. ( New ) Malton (once the site of a Roman Fort) is a Market town about a mile from Old Malton. My brother tells me that our father once told him that we had Irish connections but who and where we haven't a clue. I was born in 1937 and my father Thomas was born in 1907 at Rainbow House (on the map) but always called Rainbow Cottage by the family. This house came into the family via some relatives called Fowler (once a carpenter on Castle Howard Estate) but that is a mystery that will keep for another day, we have not worked out the relationship with the Fowlers yet.
