Notes
a. Note:   Christian may have immigrated to America in 1867, based upon year given by son Henry in later census records. In the book "Germans to America: Lists of Passengers Arriving at U.S. Ports, 1850-1855," ed., Ira A. Glazier and P. William Filby, Scholarly Resources, Inc. (Wilmington, Delaware), there is a Christopher Mailander listed as follows: page 40, Ship: Deutschland, Bremen to New York, Arriving 20 July 1867...Christoph Mailander, 42 years old - Male, Occupation: Stone Cutter, From: Wurtemberg, Village: Unknown, Destination: USA. Arriving along with: Anna, 41 years old - Female; Johannes, 16 years old - Male; Johann, 13 years old - Male; Jacob, 7 years old - Male. Although his name and 2 of the children names do not match. It is believed this is Christian Mailander for the following reasons: 1. Occupation of stone cutter is noted on the 1870 census record for Christian and sons. 2. Christian says his home town is Wurttemberg in later census records. 3. Years of birth (1825 and 1826) are close to approximate year given in census records for both Christian and Anna. The names of the boys do not exactly match the three sons known to be born to Christian (John, George, and Henry) in 1870 census. However, the names were Americanized and often times they dropped their first name or baptismal name, to use middle name. Johannes age 16 matches in year to John Mailander. Johann age 13 matches in year to George (1854). Jacob age 7 (1860) does not match year of birth of Henry (1858), but it is not far off. Also later 1930 census for Henry notes middle initial "J, " possible Jacob. Remember the person writing down the immigration record may be someone who doesn't not quite understand the immigrant's pronunciation and thus misspelling of names or dates. It is still possible that this is not the right family. However, I have not seen this immigrant family listed elsewhere in a 1870 census to exclude them.

A tree posted by a Catharine Scheff on Worldconnect.com for Christian Mailander and Anna Maria noted her maiden name as Erslinger. For now will include this information, since all the dates seem to match perfectly with those already researched. She has Christian's birth date as Mar 27, 1825. My own date was based on cemetery records backing up the date.
