Notes
a. Note:   Adam was one of the original settlers of Gwinnett Co., Ga. and was well-known and respected throughout the area. When he came from South Carolina to Gwinnett Co., he settled in the eastern part of the county in the old Laughridge District. He served as Justice of the Peace for about 30 years, beginning in 1837. He served as the Justice of the Interior Court of the county from January 1860 to January 1865 except when in the military service for the Confederacy or when serving as a
Representative in the Georgia General Assembly. Adam joined the Gwinnett Independent Blues which became Company F, 24th Georgia Infantry and was elected Second Lieutenant as an indication of his comrades' respect for him. He was 54 years old
at the time and in ill health, so on April 1, 1862, he resigned his Lieutenant's commission and returned to Lawrenceville, Georgia (Gwinnett Co.). When Thomas P. Hudson died in 1864, leaving his seat in the state legislature vacant, Adam was
elected to serve the unfinished term. In 1860 Adam's home place of 501 acres was one of the larger "plantations" in the Lawrenceville area. By the war's end, the value of the property had declined drastically. Adam and his sons were among
those who helped to rebuild Gwinnett Co. during the Reconstruction years.
