other Strayhorns in Maury Co. at this time but their relationship to R.N. is unknown. They also
migrated to Tennessee from the Orange Co. area of North Carolina.
It is not known why the Miller children are shown in this household. They are not related to either
R.N. nor Mary Ann as far as can be determined.

 1870 CENSUS
Cannot locate R.N. and Mary Ann in the 1870 TN. Census. Other southern states were also checked
but no record located under any known spellings or variations of spellings of "Straughan."
It is believed R.N. was either in Maury or Marshall Co. TN. during this time period. Other records
have been located on him during this time to confirm his residence in the area.
The 1870 Maury Co. TN. Agriculture Census, page # 15, Culleoka, may show R.N. If it is him, he is under the name "N. Straun". The record is so difficult to read that it cannot be confirmed that it is R.N.
However, the record is for the small town of Culleoka where R.N. is known to have lived and some of
the people on the same page as "N.Straun?" are people known to have been neighbors or have had
some relationship to R.N. and/or his wife Mary Ann.

Linford died Nov. 1846 and is buried in Old Bear Creek Cemetery in Marshall Co. TN.
Rebecca is presumed to be somehow related to R.N.'s wife, Mary Ann Pilkinton. Mary Ann's grandfather, Larkin Pilkinton. married Nancy Dickson. However, it is believed that Nancy was his second wife and that his first wife was Rachel Smith and that Rachel Smith was actually Mary Ann's grandmother.
In the 1850 Marshall Co. TN Census, Elizabeth R. Rushing , age 22, is living with Wm. G. Dickson,
age 27, Esther Dickson, age 45, Clarissa Dickson, age 30, Martha J. Dickson age 19 and Mary Dickson
 age 16.
In the 1860 Maury Co. TN. Census (Fountain Creek) , Rebecca Rushing, age 31, and a weaver is living with Jasper Crane, age 26 and wife Mary, age 26, and their children. Mary Crane is believed to be Rebecca's sister, Mary Dickson, who married Newton Jasper Crane on 10-21-1852 in Marshall Co. TN.
In the 1870 Maury Co. TN. Census (Culleoka), N.E. Rushing, age 41, is living with Michel Osburn, age
