a. Note:   Vernon Barrows, hi sister Hattie's son, and this vineyard roved to beunproductive and led to Clinton's financial collapse. They lived in aplace they called the Gap. It was Clinton's intention to operate astore in the building, but instead they lived in it. It had a bedroomwhere Ethel and Clinton slept, then it had a large room where all thechildren w=slept. All six. Downey slept with Edith, his sister 11years older than he.

Apparently Clinton hadbeen walking around barefoot, and Ethel didn't want the doctor to seethem. Euzell said this was hard, but he felt it was his duty. Uponhearing this story, Mel Dawson, Clinton's youngest son, said it didn'thappen. Mel was at home at the time of his father's death. Informanton the death certificate: Euzell Dawson. Ethel Downey Dawson leftthe following note in her family bible:
  "Bud went to church sunday June the 10, 1951 Wednesday June the13 had exray picture maid [sic] thursday June the 21 past away FuneralJune the 25"
