a. Note:   The 1940 federal census for Solano Co., California shows that his father was born in Canada and spoke English, and his mother born in Canada and spoke French. It also shows that French was spoken in home in earliest childhood. Earl Henry Cummings was a master mechanic, and had worked at Todd Shipyards, Mare Island Naval Station and McClellan Air Base. Graveside Services For Earl H. Cummings (Source: Pleasant Hill Historical Society, news article dated August 10, 1961) Masonic graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 13 at Pleasant Hill cemetery for Earl Henry Cummings. Mr. Cummings died June 15, 1861, just one day short of his 59th birthday in Sutter hospital, Sacramento, Calif. Masonic services were conducted by San Juan Lodge No. 732, AF & a.m., June 17 and private cremation followed the services. At the service here, for which Wallace Funeral home made the arrangements, honorary pallbearers will be Winston Golitz, William Shader, M. L. Whitlow, Lester Pearce, Earnest Pearce, Robert Hunt, John Timberlake and Fred Hayes. Mr. Cummings was Past Master of San Juan Lodge and Associate Patron of San Juan OES No. 563 at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Evelyn Edelen Cummings, Fair Oaks, Calif; his daughter, Mrs. Margaret Ann Stone, Ontario, Calif., three grandchildren; two brothers, George, or Napa, Calif., and Gerald, of Chowchilla, Calif., and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Cummings accompanied the urn here for the services and will remain with her sister, Mrs. Margaret Edelen Gulick, Paola, Kans., and brother, Browne Edelen, Sedalia, Mo., for a short visit before departing for California. Memorials, in lieu of flowers are requested to be sent to the J. Clifford Lee Cancer Fund, Flood Bldg., San Francisco, Calif. Masonic Rites Mark Passing Of E. H. Cummings Services for Earl Henry Cummings, 58, past master of the San Juan Lodge No. 732, F&AM, and a resident of the Sacramento area since 1925, were held today in the Sierra View Funeral Home. Cummings, who lived at 5200 Nugget Road in Fair Oaks, died Thursday after a long illness. For the last four years he worked as a machinist for the Parkway Manufacturing Company at 3500 Power Inn Road. He had returned to work May 1st after having been out because of illness and was fishing with his grandson, Jon Stone, at Nimbus Lake May 30th when he was stricken ill again. Fishing and hunting had been two of his major recreational interests. He was associate patron of San Juan Chapter No. 563, Order of the Eastern Star. He was born in McCloud, Siskiyou County, and attended schools in Mendocino, Mendocino County. He came to Sacramento in 1925 where he became a machinist apprentice for Southern Pacific. He lived in Sacramento until 1940 when he moved his family to Oakland where he worked as an inspector for the navy supply department during World War II. In 1944 he moved to Fair Oaks where he operated a small farm. He also worked for the Sylvan Lumber Company in Citrus Heights for several years. He was the husband of Evelyn Cummings of the home address and the father of Margaret Ann Stone of Ontario, San Bernardino County. He was the brother of George Cummings of Napa, Napa County, and Gerald Cummings of Coachella, Riverside County. He was the uncle of Mrs. Helen Cummings Clark of Sacramento and Beverly Cummings of Stockton, San Joaquin County. There are three grandchildren. Services were under the auspices of the San Juan Lodge No. 732, F&AM, Cremation was private. The family requests that any remembrance be sent to the J. Clifford Lee Cancer Fund, Flood Building, San Francisco. A WORD OF THANKS We wish to extend sincere thanks to the many friends who so generously contributed to the J. Clifford Lee Cancer fund in memory of Earl H. Cummings. The Masonic brothers who conducted graveside services were most kind and considerate.
