a. Note:   James H. Edelen was born in 1833 and descends from one of the early families of Kentucky. His grandparents came from Maryland and settled in what is now Marion County, soon after which time the grand-father died. He left a large family
Note:   , among whom was Leonard Edelen, the father of James H. Leonard was born in 1800, and was but three years old at the death of his father. He learned the trade of hatter, which he followed until his death, which occurred in 1865. He married Susan Bruce, of Lincoln County, and had a family of eight children, all now living except one. The children of Leonard and Susan Edelen are Sarah A. (McAfee), William B., Mary C. (Williams), James H., Lucy R. (Riley), Leonard G., George T. and Robert H., the latter being dead. The mother died in 1855. James H. Edelen was born and reared in Lebanon, Marion County, Where he established (1858) a drug business, in which line he continues. He was married, in 1855, to Miss Mary S. Lewis, daughter of Thomas Lewis, of Harrodsburg, Kentucky. Their union has been blessed with two children: Sallie, wife of J. R. Gilkeson, of Lebanon, and Thomas Lewis Edelen, a modest and talented young attorney of the Lebanon bar. Mr. Edelen and family are members of the Presbyterian Church. Autumn 1992, pg 72. ...in early manhood he learned the hatter's trade and located in Harrodsburg where he engaged in the hatter's business for several years. While there he was married to Miss Mary Lewis, of that city, in 1855, who preceded him to the grave several years. In 1858 he returned to this city and engaged in the ?rn? business which he followed continually until he retired from business about twelve years ago. He was married the second time about four years ago to Mrs. Belle Conway, of this city who still survives him. Besides his wife, he leaves two children by his first marriage, Mrs. J.R. Gilkerson, of this city and Mr. T.L. Edelen of Frankfort. Mr. Edelen was on of the most popular men who ever resided in Lebanon. He numbered his friends among all classes and his death will bring sorrow to many a heart. He was consistent member of the First Presbyterian church and his funeral was conducted from that church this afternoon at 3 o'clock. Services by the pastor, Rev. W.W. Stoidart. The interment took place in Ryders cemetery and the following gentlemen acted as pall bearers: R. N. Wathen, Henry Gilmore, A. J. Grundy, J. B. Carlile, W. J. Lisle, B. Mahon, J. M. Knott, and R. B.
