Funeral Notice Friends and acquaintances of the family are respectfully invited to attend the funeral of STEPHEN BROWNE at 2:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, August 22, 1915, at the Presbyterian Church. Services by the Rev. Crockett; interment in Pleasant Hill Cemetery Stephen E. Browne When his weak hand grew palsied and his eye dark with mist of age it was his time to die More than four score years ago in Springfield, Washington county, Kentucky, was born to the union of Stephen C. Browne and Eleanora Davidson on Oct. 9, 1833, a son, Stephen E. Browne, one of a family of 14 children. This son grew to manhood in his native state and on April 25, 1860, in Danville, that state, was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Myer, of that city, where they reside until 1879 when they removed to Missouri. While visiting her son in Enid, Oklahoma, Mrs. Browne was stricken with a fatal malady and died there Feb. 10, 1909. Since that time Mr. Browne had been restless and uncertain in dispostion and movements, while still retaining interest in life to some extent and attending social and religious gatherings when able. But without the stimulus of her presence, life attained a somber hue and he failed in mind and body the last few months, until on August 19, 1915, when having reached the ripe old age of 81 years 10 months and 10 days, he fell into the sleep which knows no waking this side of the grave. He was the father of seven children, Mrs. H. B. Edelen (Anna) of this city; Mrs. Roy H. Smith (Ardis) of Mespelem, Washington; Ed. A. Browne, of Crawford, Colorado; Mrs. A. J. Schieser, (Eleanor) of Greenville, California; Will C. Browne, of Chicago; Betty, who died in 1887, while visiting in Texas, and a baby boy who died in infancy. Mr. Browne was instrumental in piloting Gen. Buell's Federals from Louisville to Perryville, Kentucky, just before the famous battle at that place, this being the amount of his experience in the Civil War. He was for many years a familiar figure on the streets of Pleasant Hill and will be kindly remembered by many here. One sister, Mrs. Evelyn Rogers, of Lebanon, Kentucky, survives him, she with two of the daughters, Mrs. Schleser and Mrs. Smith, being unable to attend the funeral which was held Sunday at the Presbyterian Church, of which Mr. Browne had been a member for many years. Services were conducted by the Rev. Crocket, pastor, and Mr. Browne rests in Pleasant Hill cemetery.
