Notes
a. Note:   She died at 914 West Elm, Enid, Oklahoma. Death of Mrs. S. E. Browne Mrs. Steven E. Brown, a former well known Pleasant Hill woman, but for the past several years a resident of Kansas City, died at Enid, Okla., the at home of her son, E. A. Brown, on Feb. 10, at 11:30. The body was brought to Kansas City and services were held at the Benton boulevard Presbyterian church, conducted by Rev. McKee, assisted by Revs. Boude and McGinley. The funeral party then came to Pleasant Hill and the body was laid to rest in Pleasant Hill cemetery on Friday, Feb. 12, a brief supplementary prayer and song service being held at the grave. Mrs. Brown's given name was Margaret. She was the daughter of A. D. and E. C. Meyer, and was born at Danville, Ky., April 25, 1841. On her birthday anniversary in 1860 she was married to Steven E. Brown, of Washington county, Kentucky, and to them seven children were born. One of these died in infancy, the other in young womanhood, the five surviving children being Mrs. H. B. Edelen, of this city; Miss Ardis Brown, El Reno, Oklahoma; E. A. Brown, Enid, Oklahoma; Mrs. A. J. Scheiser, Greenville, California, and W. C. Brown, of Kansas City. Her husband also survives and is left to mourn the loss of this devoted woman. Mr. Brown and the children, also a sister and a brother of Mrs. Brown, were at her bedside when the final summons came. The Brown family moved to Pleasant Hill from Boyle county Kentucky, in December, 1879, remaining here until May, 1897, when they moved to Kansas City, which place has since been the family home. Having been in poor health for a year, Mrs. Brown went to Enid to visit her son, thinking that the change of climate might be a benefit to her, but three months to a day from the time she arrived in Enid, she breathed her last. Mrs. Brown was a good and Christian woman, in fact as well as in name, and though she left this, her old home, a decade ago, she was ever remembered with high appreciation for her many worthy qualities by all who were so fortunate as to have become acquainted with her. Joining .. Presbyterian church (remainder of article missing) MRS. STEPHEN E. BROWNE Margaret Meyer was born in Boyle county, Ky., April 25, 1841, and was the daughter of A. D. and E. C. Meyer. On her birthday anniversary, she married Stephen E. Browne, of Washington county in 1860. She died at the home of her son in Enid, Okla., February 10, 1909; and two days afterwards the body was buried in the cemetery at Pleasant Hill, Mo. The funeral services were held in her own church in Kansas City, Mo., conducted by Dr. Lapsley McKee, assisted by Rev. Messrs. McGinley and Boude. The family moved from Boyle county, Ky., to Pleasant Hill, Mo., in 1879, living there until 1896, when they moved to Kansas City. Seven children were born, one dying in infancy, one in young womanhood, and five survive to mourn the loss of a good mother. Mrs. Browne's health declined; thinking to benefit her health, she visited her son at Enid, Okla., and in three months died. The five children, a sister and a brother, and a stricken husband were at her bedside when the end came. She has left the full inheritance of a useful Christian life for her children. God spared her until they were all grown and settled. She was an outspoken, honest, consistent Christian, she loved her church, and was always in her place. God has the riches of His rewards for her. Let all take comfort and thank God for such a mother, such a friend, such a sister -- for such a Christian. H. B. B. Independence, Mo. Browne. -- Mrs. Stephen E. Browne, late of Boyle county, and daughter of the late Major A. D. Meyer, and sister of E. H. Meyer, of this county, and Mrs. R. A. Browne, of Springfield passed from her earthly to her heavenly home at the residence of her son, E. A. Browne, in Enid, Okla., on Feb. 10, 1909 at 11:30 a. M. The beauties of her Christian life will be precious memory to her husband, five children, brother and sister, who were all present at her bedside during her (remainder of article missing)
