Note: IS MARRIED AT RENO, NEVADA Plesant Hill Girl Becomes Bride of Sacramento Man Miss Evelyn Edelen, daughter of Judge and Mrs. H. B. Edelen, this city, was married last Saturday at Reno, Nevada, to Earl Cummings, of Sacramento, California, in which city the bride has made her home since late last summer. The parents of the bride have never met their new son-in-law, but they have connections in the west who know him well and approve him. He is a Presbyterian, Mason and Eastern Star -- pretty fair sort of recommendation, by and large. Mr. and Mrs. Cummings returned at once to Sacramento from Reno and will live in the California city. ------------------------------------------- The following formal sketch of the ceremony has just reached The Times: "The marriage of Miss Evelyn Edelen, youngest daughter of Judge and Mrs. H. B. Edelen, and Mr. Earl H. Cummings, was solemnized at Reno, Nevada, March 30th, at 2 p. m. "The wedding took place at the beautiful new home of Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Ahlers, 823 Nixon Ave. The Rev. William Mall Case of the First Presbyterian Church, read the ring ceremony and Miss Eleanor Ahlers sang, "Oh, Promise Me,' preceding the ceremony. "The bride and the bridesmaid, Miss Allly Shultz of Sacramento, descended the stairs to the strain of Lohengrin's Wedding March, played by Miss Dorothy Ahlers, and the groom and best man met the bride at the foot of the stairs, whence the minister preceded the bride and groom to an altar of palms in front of the fire place. "After the ceremony the bride cut the cake and light refreshments were served, after which there was a six o'clock dinner to the wedding party by Mrs. Ahlers and daughters. Mr. and Mrs. Cummings then departing for their home in the new Crisler Manor apartments in Sacramento. "Mr. Cummings was reared in Mendicino, Calif., where his parents now reside. He has been employed by the Southern Pacific R. R. for the last three years. The bride is a well known and popular Pleasant Hill girl." The Times joins other friends in extending congratulations. (Evelyn) Cummings and her 9-year-old daughter, Margaret Ann, of Richmond, Calif., San Francisco suburb, arrived here last week for a visit with Mrs. Cummings' mother, Mrs. H. B. Edelen. Other guests at Sunday dinner in the Edelen home were Mr. and Mrs. Browne Edelen and son Gene of Warrensburg. Mrs. Wm. Gulick of Olathe, Kas., and Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Craig. Mrs. Cummings will return to California this Friday but Margaret Ann, nervous about air-raid alarms, will stay at Olathe with Mrs. Gulick, her aunt, for the duration of the war. Cummings, whose home is at 6330 Conlon Ave., Richmond Calif., arrived last Thursday and will leave for Richmond this Friday, accompanied by her mother, Mrs. Anna Edelen. (Source: Pleasant Hill Historical Society, news article dated October 15, 1943) Mrs. E. H. (Evelyn Edelen) Cummings, Richmond, Calif. writes that her mother, Mrs. Anna Edelen, who went quite some time ago to join the Cummings family, "is improving very satisfactorily. The change has done her a world of good and she really looks better than I have seen her to be for more than two years. We do so want her to stay out here for the winter -- and longer. The climate is ideal -- it is like spring in Missouri now. We were recently favored with a visit from Mrs. Anna Clay (Mrs. Clay now resides at Piedmont, Oakland subdivision) and, of course, as mother and the Clay family had been so close for years there in Pleasant Hill, it was like a ray of sunshine to my homesick mother. (Source: Pleasant Hill Historical Society, news article dated December 1943) Having missed some copies of The Times, Mrs. E. H. (Evelyn Edelen) Cummings of Richmond, Calif., writes, "Please check up and send them out -- otherwise you might see mother (Mrs. Anna Edelen) come moping in there to ger her paper, and we would like for her to remain here at least until it starts to warm up there. She in fine and hearty. Had Ardis (Mrs. Ardis B. Smith, San Francisco) over for Thanksgiving. Mrs. Clay, Marguerite and the boys were out before Thanksgiving. This is her first visit home in about two years.
