The 1930 federal census for Johnson Co., Kansas shows William Brown, age 53, born in Arkansas, laborer, living in this household. My mother says that he was not a relative, but lived with the family in their four room farmhouse. The house consisted of a kitchen, dinning room, living room and bedroom. I lived with my grandparents in this house during several school summer vacations and for a partial year during the sixth grade. The house did not have running water, and you had to walk about 60 or 70 yards to an outhouse. The telephone was wall mounted with a crank to ring the operator, and it had a party line where you could hear other people's conversations if you picked up the receiver. You could tell if the call was for you by the number of rings. I always enjoyed rabbit and squirrel hunting, and fishing in the creek and ponds on this farm. ((P. J. Kuhn)) Their farm in Paola, Kansas was sold to Jerry Weaver on 3 March 2006. He owned the adjacent farm. His address is: Jerry A. Weaver 26150 Block Road Paola, Kansas 66071
