Notes
a. Note:   Homer Porter Haggard was born in Plano, Texas on December 22, 1909 to Tandy Berryman Haggard and Hassie Pearl Northcutt. The family moved to the 600 acre Northcutt farm south of Frisco when Hassies parents moved to town. The farm is currently the home of JC Penney in Legacy Park. Homer and his sister Romayne attended Frisco schools for twelve years. They would ride in a horse-drawn cart to school and tie up the horse at the schools hitching post. Lots of kids rode horses to school. The school contained all twelve grades in a two-story building. FISD currently uses this building for administration offices. Lela Amelia Marcom was born in Anna, Texas to Basley Marcom and Octavia Jones. Basley was a banker, and Octavia was the 8th of 15 children. The family moved quite often because Basleys job was to try and stabilize banks during the depression. The family lived in Anna, McKinney, Allen, and Frisco. Amelia attended seven different schools before graduating from McKinney High School at 16 years of age. Homer and Amelia met in 1928 when the Marcom family moved to Frisco, and Amelia attended the Frisco school. The Marcoms lived at the Clark house on Hickory Street, which is now a daycare center by Acker Elementary. Amelia says that on Saturday nights everybody would go down on main street to the drugstore to get ice cream and a cold drink and listen to Claude Curtsinger play the piano. Homer and Amelia continued to date even when the Marcom family moved back to McKinney. Homer would pick Amelia up in McKinney and then drive to Dallas to see a movie at either the Majestic Theater or the Palace. After graduation, Amelia attended West Texas State University at Canyon for one year. Homer attended the Metropolitan Business College in Dallas. They married in Greenville, Texas on December 16, 1931. Homer and Amelia moved in with Tandy and Hassie on the farm following their marriage. At first, the farm had no running water or electricity, but they always had a phone. Homer taught Amelia how to drive in a pickup in the pasture. Homer farmed with his Dad and then worked as a sales manager for Huey & Philip Wholesale Hardware in Dallas. During this time, Homer and Amelia raised two daughters, Ann and Sally. Homer and Amelia were both active in the Frisco community. Homer was a member of the Frisco Lions Club, Masonic Lodge, Dallas Shriners Club, on the Board of Stewards at the Frisco Methodist Church, a Boy Scout leader with Cal Wester, and a member of the Board of Governors of Collin Memorial Hospital in McKinney from February 1957 to May 1964. Amelia was a PTA member for 23 years and received a PTA lifetime membership award. She also taught childrens Sunday school at the Methodist Church. Amelia and Sally moved into town after Homer died of heart disease in 1964. Amelia then went to work for Dr. Erwin G. Pink as a receptionist/bookkeeper for eight years. He nicknamed her Sapphire.
