a. Note:   Benjamin B. Jones received a Bachelor of Laws degree from William and Mary College in 1811. He held the rank of Captain in the War of 1812, serving in both the 35th and 24th Virginia Infantry divisions and was honorably discharged June 15, 1815. He served with General Andrew Jackson in the campaigns against the Indians of Tennessee, Georgis, Mississippe, and Florida and was a veteran of the Battle of New Orleans. He was an attorney-at-law in Alabama Territory. He was the son of William Jones whose wife's name is not known; all of his children, however, are named in his will. Martha Haywood was the daughter of Judge John Haywood of Nashville. She married second, Dr. Augustine Burkett Washington. See P 274-81 of Biographical History of N. C. by Ashe.
