Notes
a. Note:   N138 Jonathan Reel of Sandusky Co ALWAYS spells his name RIEL.
I believe this is Johannes X Reel who comes to Philadelphia on the ship Sandwich, Captained by Hazelwood. Arriving Friday, 30 Nov1750 from Rotterdam via Cowes. He may have indentured himself for a couple years to pay for his passage, because his grandson seems to think indenture is a normal way to operate.
Sandwich & Hazelwood = a conversation with my mother in 1964 when she also states they came from Holland, they stopped in England for awhile and that Mamie believed the letter H had been dropped from the original spelling of Reel. This family believes very strongly that they are Dutch. Some female of the family had wooden shoes. but we are not sure she didn't buy them in the USA. Also, it was known that a man of the name Reel came here then returned to Europe. This would be Peter or Jacob of Germany and he left his wife & children in the Liberty area, & never returned to the US.
The recent German Riehl's may have caused Mamie to think the letter H was missing from Reel.
Another possibility is the Ship Patience that arrived Pilly on 11Aug1750 with Johann Reihle.
1751: Johann Jacob Reil in Schwartzwald near Oley, Berks Co with wife Maria Catherine
1752-1754 Tax Records: John Riel Berks Co & Peter Beil in Richmond Twp, Berks Co.
1767: Tax List for Berks Co: Peter Reed 100 acres
1784:Tax List: John Read, laborer, no land, 4 people in the home in Tulpehocken Berks Co.
1790 census M637 roll 8 page 129. Peter Reed 2/1/3. Peter with son John, John's wife & one son.
1790 Widow Rihl in Bern Berks Co. one male over 16, two males under 16 & 4 females.
(possible John Simon, his wife, mother & two daughters and two sons.)
1790 Peter Biehl in Richmond Berks Co.--3--3.
Simeon Riel is in CT, New Haven in 1800 census and gone in 1810. (AKA Sim). It's possible that he is
some relation to this family, & that he came over to USA on the ship Mortonhouse on 19Aug1729, (but, online says Simon on the Mortonhouse, moved to Lebanon, Lancaster & Dauphin Co, Pa) also
possible that he is John Peter (Peter is same as Simon). He has 2 boys & one girl under age 10. He and wife are age 26-45.(year?)
Note: Mahoning County came into existance in 1846, previously it would have been Trumbull Co. (Ohio); 1796-1799 Trumbull Co is Washington Co., 1799 Trumbull maybe Jefferson Co.; 1803 Austintown had 26 Tax Payers.
Nicholas: had son Simon Riehl born 16Oct1736 in Berks Co. Not our Peter Simon.
He could actually die in Trumbull Co Ohio. See his son John.
