a. Note:   Lived in West Greenwich, Rhode Island and may have been born there. In 1794 He held a lease for land in Pittsfield Twp., Otsego Co., NY. He is in the 1800 Census for Otsego Co., NY. He was drafted into the New York State Militia at the beginning of the War of 1812. He was drafted for service in the war of 1812 at Plainfield, Otsego Co., NY in March 1813. He served under Corporal Anthony Smith, also a resident of Pittsfield. The company was commanded by Captain William Pallmer under Colonel Belner who was under General Brown. Caleb and Corporal Smith were taken prisoner on June 6, 1813 at the Battle of Stoney Creek in Canada. They were taken to prison in Quebec. Corporal Smith was exchanged, but Caleb was not. From Claire Shaw- British Prisoner of War Records- Anthony Smith Was # 379. Caleb Wells was #384. Caleb was born in West Greenwich, RI. Description- 5ft. 6in. tall-male- long visage- medium complexion- light hair- blue eyes- he had lost the middle finger on his right hand. He was 45 years of age.
