Note: There is a postcard type photo in Chris Roque's possession of a man in uniform. On the reverse is written: James Johnson, my mother's father. Alice Gray Noted in Margaret Craig's handwriting: "Father of Mary Johnson Ranous, {born April 4, 1837} Picture circa 1835 Great-great grandfather of Margaret Lucas Craig. Great, great, great grandfather of Christine Lewis George Morales." This would indicate that the photo was taken about 2 years before the birth of Mary Isabel Johnson, mother of Alice Gray Ranous. The uniform could be an Irish army uniform.

Note: James Johnson, son of James Johnson, brother of John Johnson and brother of Mary Isabel Johnson Ranous. Mention of this brother was in a civil war letter from John Johnson to Mary Ranous. This letter is in the possession of Sara Lou Miller in Dallas, TX and was part of her mother's belongings. Margaret Craig, Sara's mother, stated to Chris Roque, her niece, that she thought the two brothers were on opposing sides in the Civil War. This is unverified.
