Notes
a. Note:   I can remember Uncle Emil very well as we were a very close family. My father, Jerry (Gerald) Halle and my mother Shirley Fineroff Halle were in business with them for a short while in a grocery store on 3rd & D. Streets. N.W. Washington,D.C. Uncle Emil was instrumental along with his sister, Elsa Halle Lobenstern in convincing my father to come to Washington, D.C. from N.Y. in 1941. My father did so and we then came with our mother, Shirley Fineroff Halle to Capital Heights to begin a new life in the D.C. metro area. Uncle Emil always loved the children in the family and he would roll around the floor and play with us always. We used to come to their home on Sundays many times for dinner and fun. When they moved into Maryland they tried to get my parents to purchase a home there also, but Mother was stubborn and did not want to move into the wilderness as she called it then. They had a lovely home on Powhattan Road in West Hyattsville and we used to love to come and visit. Mother finally conceded and they bought a home on the next block on Ager Road. Daddy purchased a St. Bernard dog, which we named Jack. He kept him at Uncle Emil's house until we were ready to move there. One day the dog got out and Uncle Emil and Daddy went looking for him in the woods. They could not catch him. So they built a trap in the back yard and hung raw meat up. When the dog jumped for the meat the trap door would come down and they would catch the dog. This was not very successful for sometime and they were worried about Jack. But one day they were smarter than the dog and Bingo.....the trap closed. We had our dog back. It was not long after that we moved into our own home on Ager Road and we all were raised as one big happy family. Uncle Emil was a great father, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather and a friend to all the children in the family. We have truly missed him. I know that Aunt Natalie never stopped talking about him or loving him til the day she went to meet him in that great house in the sky. Love you Uncle Emil, Roberta
