Note: Nachmon Halle married Sara Loewenstein and they built a home in Stoermede, Germany, August 1, 1850. Today this home still stands and is a Pub in the front of the house. The rear portion still has the original pegged floor and is used for meetings and banquets. We were fortunate enough in April 1998 to visit Germany and to have a drink in this pub. Roberta and Michael Bass and Rose and Barry Lipov took this trip to relive history and trace their ancestors. We visited Nachmon and Sara's graves in the Geseke cemetery. The Jewish cemetery had been moved and so only the stones were present the remains were probably under the road that was built. However, they must have been of some importance, we are told as they were allowed, as Jews, to build around the corner from a church. According to records they had paid for protection as Jews and, therefore, they were permitted more freedom and were able to have a business. We only know that he was a merchant of some dry goods, we think. This probably is true as one of his son's, Salomon owned a fur factory in Bochum and his grandson, Albert, was a furrier also when he came to the US.
