a. Note:   Died from consumption. In 1877 was listed on a Washington County Jury list for the Clearspring District per 1877 jury list at www.whilbr.org. In 1870 living in Clearspring area next to the family of George Kline. Per research of Michael "Mick" Beckenbaugh, the 1870 property NE of Clearspring and bordering Pennsylvania was known as "Flaggy Meadows". This property was sold in 1870. In 1880 living in the Conococheague area NW of Hagerstown, again on property bordering on Pennsylvania. His grave marker and cemetery records give his death as 1895. Inscription in his family Bible gives 1896, and his age at death, compared to his birth date, agrees with 1896. Probate data, if found, would settle which date is correct. Of his children with his first wife, one died at age 2, three died close to each other in age (30, 34,36) and the last two died close to each other in age (69, 72).
b. Note:   Agrees with age at death using death in 1896.
c. Note:   about three miles NW of Cearfoss along the Mercersburg Road.
d. Note:   rtificate the marriage location of Walter's parents is given as Hagerstown. This agrees with a handwritten entry in the Bible, seen when in the possession of Max Beckenbaugh and now (2011) in the possession of his son William Beckenbaugh.
