i am a direct descendant of valentine roades. there is a copy of the genealogy of valentine roads on file in the library of southern state community college in hillsboro, ohio. it was compiled by velma roades trant. velma was 80 years old in '95 and her phone number is 409-543-3656. i don't know if she is still alive. my number is 828-692-2701. good luck.

I was wondering if you had a Sarah Roads as a daughter of Jacob. My Sarah Roads was born in 1795 and was married to William Platt in Highland County, Ohio in 1815. They later moved to Tippecanoe County, Indiana and spent most of the rest of their lives there. Sarah died in Cass County, Indiana in 1883.
I think Sarah is Jacob's daughter because she and her husband were living next door to him in the 1830 census. Also Sarah's son (my gggg-grandfather) was named Jacob R. and I suspect the R. might have stood for Roads.

Jacob and Abraham were brothers and moved from Virginia to Highland County, Ohio in the early 1800's. The county paper published an article on Abraham (with mention of Jacob)this summer. If you're interested, send me an email and I'll get you a scanned copy. Of interest (possibly)--some of Abraham's descendents moved to the Oklahoma Territory and still live there. Some of Jacob's descendents still live in Highland Co., Ohio.

Will of Valentine Roads - signed 22 June 1823, probated 21 November 1835
I Vallentine Roads of the County of Highland in the State of Ohio do make & publish this my last will and testament, hereby revoking and making void all former wills by me at any time heretofore made.
First it is my will that my funeral expenses & all my just debts be fully paid as soon after my decease as possible out of the first money that shall come into the hands of my Executor from any portion of my estate real or personal.
Second I direct that a fair valuation or appraisement be made by three judicious men of Highland County to be appointed by the Court of Common pleas of said County of all my personal Estate including my household furniture and after being signed with their names that a copy of the same be given by them to my executor. Also I direct that all my personal Estate be sold by my executor as soon after my decease as possible at public auction for good current money or upon well secured credits of six months & under. Also I will and direct that the farm on which I now live situate in the township of Paint in said County of Highland containing about two hundred acres shall be appraised and valued as soon after my decease as possible by three judicious disinterested men of said County also to be appointed by the Court of Common pleas of said County and upon valuation that said appraisers set off out of said real Estate on third of the same to my beloved wife Catharine Roads according to the quallity thereof which said third part I will and bequeath to my said wife during her natural life that said appraisement be made under oath & a copy thereof under the hands & seals of said appraisers returned to my Executor immediately after the same shall be made. Also I direct the one third part of the avails of my personal property divided as above to be sold shall be paid to my said wife Catharine after said property shall be reduced to cash as above & that this together with the land above bequeathed shall stand in lieu of my said wifes dower Also I direct the remainder of my real estate shall remain under the control of my Executor untill the decease of my wife Catharine during which time my said Executor shall lease or rent said real Estate for so much as it is reasonably worth in money which money shall be divided as I shall herein after direct and that after the decease of my said wife the whole of the farm above named shall be appraised and valued by three judicious disinterested men of said County appointed by the Court aforesaid who shall according to the quallity thereof divide the same into shares set off one of said shares to each of my children or to their legal representatives that said appraisers shall as soon after said valuation as possible return a report of their said appraisement to my executor under their hands & seals & upon oath and I do hereby empower my executor to convey the parts so set off by said appraisers to my said children or their heirs so always governed by the report as aforesaid of said appraisers by deed in fee simple in as full and ample a manner as I myself could do if living. Also I direct that my personal estate shall be divided as follows whereas I have already paid and advanced to my children in money and property the several sums attached to their names as follows to wit.
To my son John Roads two hundred and fifty three dollars and eighty three cents.
To my Daughter Elizabeth Fauver two hundred and thirty dollars and fifty cents.
To my son Valentine Roads two hundred & five dollars and fifty cents.
To my son Abraham Roads two hundred and fifty dollars.
To my son George Roads two hundred and ninety one dollars and fifty cents.
To my Daughter Catharine Brock two hundred and sventy five dollars and fifty cents
To my son Phillip Roads two hundred and fifty dollars
To my Daughter Barbara Roads two hundred and Eighteen dollars
To my son Henery Roads two hundred and fifty dollars
To my Daughter Mary Roads two hundred and ten dollars
And whereas I have in my hands a note against the Estate of John Fauver decd late Husband of my said Daughter Elizabeth Fauver for fifty Dollars the said sum of fifty Dollars I hereby direct to be added to the sum already paid to the said Elizabeth making the whole sum paid amount to two hundred & eighty Dollars & fifty cents said note on this condition to be and it is hereby cancelled.
Now it is my will & I do hereby direct that the several sums of money so named above which I have already advanced to my said children be added to the money that shall be made by the sale as aforesaid of my personal estate and the said renting or leasing of my real Estate and that the whole sum thus made shall be divided by my Executor into ten Equal shares & then that my Executor pay to each of my children one of said ten shares after deducting therefrom the amount that I have already paid to them respectively as above mentioned by way of advancement.
Also I direct that if any of my children are now dead or shall die before the time of my decease or before said distribution of division of my estate real or personal is made then & in that case their heirs or representatives are entitled to receive such share or shares of said property as their ancestor respectively would be entitled to receive if living
Also I will and direct that if my said wife does not survive me then all my personal property shall be sold as soon after my decease as possible in manner aforesaid & the so part of my personal estate above derived to my said wife to be divided among my said children or their heirs as the case may be as the residue thereof is directed to be divided above and also that my real Estate be divided as aforesaid as soon after my decease as possible among my said children & the several parts as the same shall be divided by the aforesaid appraisers shall be conveyed by deed as aforesaid by said Executor to each of my said children respectively.
And I will and direct that George Roads my son be the Executor for this my last will & testament & I do hereby constitute & appoint him to carry the same into execution
In testimony whereof I Valentine Roads have hereunto set my hand & seal this 22nd day of June in the year of our Lord one Thousand Eight hundred & thirty three AD 1833.
