a. Note:   Gershom [2], the youngest son of Adam [l] Mott by his first wife, had removed to Monmouth, N.J., before 1685, married Catherine Bowne, was high-sheriff and member of the Provincial Assembly, and died about 1733. None of his descendants appear later in Long Island. The late General Gershom [6] Mott was the great grandson of his son William [3]. A notice of this branch of the family is in the N. Y.
