  "John Washburn, one of the twelve principal burgesses mentioned in the charter of incorporation granted by James I to Evesham and Bengeworth, in the county of Worcester in 1605." Burke's American Families, 1983, pgs. 2958 & 2959. Also, in "Colonial Families of America", Vol. 12 it states, "John Washbourne, who was born about 1556; was member of the first board of burgesses, appointed by James I, when he granted a charter to Evesham, including Bengeworth as a suburb in 1605; during the latter part of his life he was blind; died August 1624; married, July 6, 1596, Martha Stephens.
