Notes
a. Note:   ecord, vol. 70 (1939), p. 129: MARGRIETA HARDENBROOK was born in Elberfeld, Germany. It Is not known when she came to this country, but she preceded her parents. The banns of her marriage to PIETER RUDOLPHUS DE VRIES (whose mother was a cousin of Rembrandt's wife . . . were published on Oct. 10, 1659. . . . He died between May 17 and June 10, 1661 . . . , and the banns of her second marriage to Frederick Philipse were published Oct. 28, 1662. . . . That Margrieta was a daughter of Adolph is proven by a petition dated Sept. 27, 1674 . . . , in which Philipse calls Hardenbrook his father-in-law. Margrieta was a trader, and helped to make her husband one of the wealthiest men in the community. When the Labadists came over in 1679 on the Charles, Margrieta was the owner and supercargo of the vessel, and they had many uncomplimentary things to say of her. . . . She died before Nov. 30, 1692 . . . when her husband married her son-in-law's sister, Catharina (van Cortlandt) der Val. Children: By her first husband, Pieter Rudolphus de Vries: i. Maria, bap.
