Note: Henry and Alfred left their mother, Melinda, at their home in Vernon County, MO, in the spring of 1876. Their goal was to go to the Colorado gold fields. In route, they stopped off in Stafford County, KS. There Alfred met Margaret Jane (Gibson) McKinney, a young widow with a five year old son, Charles. They promptly got married (at Great Bend, KS). Henry headed on to the Colorado gold fields and was never heard from, thereaafter.
