Notes
a. Note:   N1 PROBLEM: 1998 There is confusion as to which wife is the mother of the children. According to the "TN Records of Jackson Co. 1817-1860" Mary Shaw is the mother, and Caty Baker isn't mentioned. March 1999: Information from Betty J. Dennard King, Mustang OK., there are two Adams. Adam Sr. is married to Mary Shaw and his son Adam Jr. is married to Caty Baker. According to Betty, Adam Jr. moved to Jackson Co. TN first, and later Adam Sr. and Mary Shaw followed. -------- 10 Feb 2010, http://www.tngs.org/ansearchin/ 1806 SIGNERS OF PETITIONERS FOR REDUCTION OF CONSTITUTIONAL LIMITS OF JACKSON CO. Records *********** The following is posted on Rootsweb.com by Joy Frazier: (the posting includes 15 children) Adam Teel was Dutch. He had two brothers, Edward and Nicholas, and they all emigrated from The Netherlands, Holland to Virginia some time in the early 1780's or late 1770's. Later they came to Jackson County, Tennessee. The family Bible was secretly brought from Holland to America by Adam and Caty. Adam and Caty came to America and first settled near Old Jamestown, Virginia-later moving to Yancyville, North Carolina and finally emigrating to Tennessee near Wartrace Creek in Jackson County where they lived until their deaths. Adam wore knee pants, low shoes, with bright shoe buckles a cut-a-way coat, red stockings and a red vest. He had long hair, and it curled. Both Adam and Caty* are supposed to be buried in graves on their former land across the creek from their home in the corner field which was cut off for a burying place. This plot lay near the old Presbyterian Camp Ground Church, where they held membership. The graves resemble rock-tombs, large slabs of stone on top and all covered with ivy-no names or dates. When they died, William Teel their youngest son, bought the old home and later sold it to a Mr. Carver. William later moved to Texas. [True, Collin Co., TX] *Adam's first wife, Mary Shaw, is also buried here. Their graves have a coffin shaped rock over each grave, no names or dates are given. The name Johann was the Baptismal name of boys given in the Lutheran Church in Germany. Family links: Spouse: Mary Shaw Teele* Children: George Teele (1791 - 1847)* Peter Teel (1795 - 1875)* Rylie Teel (1804 - 1874)* John Teel (1814 - 1869)* William Teel (1816 - 1878)* *Calculated relationship Burial: Teel Family Cemetery Jackson County Tennessee, USA Created by: James Hill Record added: Oct 29, 2008 Find A Grave Memorial# 30969272
