Note: N9 Riley and his brother John sold their land on Jennings Creek, Jackson Co.TN in 1857 and moved to Perry Co. IL. From: "TN-Records of Jackson Co.. Ranger Book 1817-1860" Buried at the Teel Cemetery Perry Co. IL (see SAGA sources), also this Riley Teel is noted on the 1850 Agricultural Census as having: 50 acres improved land, 110 acres unimproved land, $400 cash value of farm, $50 in farm implements, 6 horses, 1 cow, 1 other cattle, 20 swine, $250 in livestock, 600 bushels of corn, 50# butter, $45 of home made mft. 12 Apr 2011, DAVID TEEL Teel Family Cemetery Rylie and his son Franklin Heyward are noted in Teel genealogy as those who came to Illinois on horseback from Tennessee. From Census documents, it appears that Rylie and Franklin came to Illinois sometime between 1840 and 1850. Also from census documents, it appears that Rylies older brother John (and his family) came to Illinois between 1850 and 1860. Nearly all of the Teels in the Southern Illinois area can be traced back to Rylie and/or John. 18 Feb 2001 CD TEEL TREE from Roger Teel: RILEY TEEL NOTES: Following is found in the 1850 Federal Census, State of Illinois, Perry County, District 7, Reel #: M-432, dated 10/15/1850, Page 113: TEAL Riley 44 M Farmer Va. TEAL Susan 33 F Tenn. TEAL Franklin H. 18 M Farmer Tenn. TEAL Martha A. C. 14 F Tenn. No indication of Susan and Riley appear in the earlier Census' of 1830 or 1840 (Federal Illinois Census for Perry County). Further, there are no Land Patent records in Perry County under Riley's name. We know that Peter, who had 4 different parcels of land in Perry County, had moved to Denton, Texas by 1850. Its possible that Riley took charge of his brother's land, when Peter and his family moved. An alternative explanation is that Riley was staying with his sister Sara, and her husband Isaac Lee...but they are listed 14 pages away in the Census, which makes this unlikely. -------- 14 Mar 2009, Ancestry.com 1850 IL Census, Perry Co., Dist 7, 15 Oct 1850, image 113 of 126 TEAL(sic), Riley, age 44 (b. abt 1806), male wht, farmer, real estate $800, b. He was 70 years, 8 months, 10 days old. Rylie married Susan Saunders in about 1832 in Jackson County, Tn. Family lore says that Rylie was the first Teel to migrate to Southern Illinois from Tennessee; this was not the case. His older brother Peter arrived before him, buying up a wealth of land in the Paradise Prairie area East of Du Quoin. Peter sold Rylie 429 acres on October 19, 1850. The first true Teel immigrants to Southern Illinois were actually sisters of Rylie and Peter. Sarah "Sally" Teel married Isaac Lee and died in 1833 in Perry County, Il. Another sister, Priscilla married Daniel Lee and is listed in the deed of sale selling 80 acres to Peter Teel in 1839. Two other sisters (Jamima and Catherine) also lived, died, and are buried in the area. It is not known when they migrated to Southern Illinois. Rylie and Susan had two children; Franklin Haywood Teel and Martha Anne Catherine (Teel) Young. Franklin would stay on the farm in Illinois. After burying two of her children in the Teel Cemetery, Martha and her husband Isaac Young moved to California where they both lived full lives and had two more children who also had full lives. Family links: Spouse: Susan Saunders Teel (1807 - 1894) Children: Franklin H.
