Descendants of John Baldwin,, March 1997. A brother or cousin of Sylvester Baldwin who died during their passage on the ship Martin to New England in 1638. John was a settler in Milford in 1639, because he was not a member of the church which had established Milford as a religious community or colony. Homestead was original lot#13 on the west side of the river in Milford. He joined the church 19 March 1648. Moved to Newark, New Jersey around 1667, but later returned to Milford. Was a sergeant in the Connecticut militia 1658. Birth given as 24 June 1619. Death given at Buckinghamshire, England. J.L. Chester 1888, New England Genealogical Society Register vol. 38, pp. 160-170. Named in will of grandmother Alice (King) Baldwin, 4 June 1622. Named in will of uncle Richard Baldwin 18 February 1632/3. Named in will of brother Richard Baldwin in1634.
