a. Note:   [ralphroberts.ged] [roberts.GED] [6958.ged] William Strother was born probably 1665-75. He was a planter, and lived at the original seat of his father, now in King George Co. On Dec. 20, 17I8, there was patented to Wm. Cocke, Chicheley Corbin Thacker, Francis Thornton, Jr., and Wm. Strother, 6,000 acres of land in St. Mary's parish, Essex county (now Spottsylvania), beginning on a great swamp called Massaponnax, about three miles from the Falls of the Rappahannock. He was a vestryman of Hanover parish and married Margaret, b. April 2, 1678, dau of Francis Thornton and his wife Alice, dau of Capt. Anthony Savage, of Gloucester Co. In I722, he gave to his son "Will" Strother, Jr., the land devised him by his father, except what had been sold to John Strother. On July 26, 1726, his will was admitted to probate, and his widow qualified as exrx, but the first Will Book (I720-1744) of King George Co. containing it was lost during the late war. Children, order conjectural: (1) William Strother, m. Margaret Watts. (2) Francis, of St. Mark's, m. Susannah Dabney. (3) Anthony, b. Aug. 1, 1710; m. (1) Behethland Stark, (2)Mary James. (4)Benjamin, of Stafford, m. Mary (Mason), widow of George Fitzhugh. (Owen, William Strother of VA, 1898, pp. 4-5). 1702 MIL: Richmond Co, VA, militia, William Strothers, Lt. 1719 DEED: Richmond Co, VA, p. 107, dtd 10 Aug 1719, recorded 2 Sep 1719, P of A, wit by Benjamin Strother, (his brother) William Strother, Jr., and Thomas Turner. 1726 WILL: King George Co, VA, dtd 7 Apr 1726, probated 1 Jul 1726, William Strother, Sr.; wife Margaret; sons William and Francis and dau Margaret, decd, have received theirs; sons Benjamin, Anthony, and George were each given three Negroes none to be at their disposal without the consent of the executrix; grandson John, the son of Francis; Wife Margaret sole executrix and to receive all of personal estate and part and parcel thereof.
