Bigland in his History of Gloucestershire gives on page 262 the following inscription on a flat stone in Newland Church: "William Throgmorton of Tortworth Knt & Bart. who married Cecily eldest daughter & coheir of Thomas Baynham Esq and left by her Baynham, Thomas, William, Nicholas, Anne, and Elizabeth.
