He was one of the original subscribers to the London Company for the settlement of Virginia. He subscribed and paid �75. In 3 Jas. I, April 16 (1605), an act for settling the manor of Rye, in the counties of Gloucester and Worcester, upon William Throckmorton, Esq., and his heirs, according to a feoffment thereof made by Charles, late Earl of Devonshire. Sir William died 18th July, 1628, and was buried 20th July at Newland. In p. m., 8th Chas. I, part 1, no. 84. Married(*) (1st) Cecilia, daughter and co-heir (born 1586) of Sir Thomas Baynham at Clowerwall, Knight, high sheriff of Gloucester (died 2nd October, 1611, aged 75. Inq. p. m., 11 James, no. 23), and his wife, Mary, daughter of Sir William Winter of Lydney, Gloucestershire, Knight. Arms of Baynham:(+) Quarterly of 4. Bigland in his History of Gloucestershire gives on page 262 the following inscription on a flat stone in Newland Church: "William Throgmorton of Tortworth Knt & Bart. who married Cecily eldest daughter & coheir of Thomas Baynham Esq and left by her Baynham, Thomas, William, Nicholas, Anne, and Elizabeth. Pub., vol. 55. p. 1270, Hannah Throckmorton, sister of Sir Baynham Throckmorton. m. John Johnson, of Pinchbeck (2nd wife) and Ayscoughfee Hall in Spalding, bur. at Spalding 10 March, 1666-7, will dated 4 Feb., 1666, proved at Lincoln, 1667, had issue, John Johnson.
