Note: [ralphroberts.ged] [roberts.GED] [6958.ged] Hancock Taylor was the leader of one division of the surveying party sent out in the spring of 1774 by Col. Preston, but was shot by the Indians and died upon Taylor's Fork of Silver Creek, Kentucky, VA. Another killed then was James Strother. (See Thwaites and Kellogg, Dunmore's War, reprint ed; Bowie, MD: Heritage, 1989, pp. 23 & 264). James, d. unm. in 1764; will prob. in Stafford Co., property given to brother French, and sister Mary Gray; exer, George Gray (Owen, William Strother of VA, 1898, p. 16).
