Note: [ralphroberts.ged] [samsloan.ged] There is a raging debate as to whether Jesse James is related to the family of John M James w ho married Clara Nalle. The grandfather of Jesse James was another John M. James (1775-1827) . He was 25 years younger than John M. James (1751-1823). In spite of the similarity of names plus the fact that both came from the same area of Virgin ia, knew many of the same people and migrated at about the same time to the same area of Kent ucky, there is no proof that they were related. This has caused a raging debate which you can read about at http://www.ericjames.org/TwoJohnMJames/index.html A possibility is that the second John M. James was a bastard son. Another possibility is tha t they were both the same person, a man who has two sets of children, who did not know abou t or acknowledge each other. The fact that Joseph Martin James, one of the sons of the elder John M. James, was a polygami st who had three wives and 19 children adds to this possibility. Sam Sloan
