Text:   "Eli and Martha Elmer Randall History" The name Jeppe is the name of the estate, but was also used as a
family name. On the Jeppe estate our forefathers have lived
and farmed for many hundreds of years. Karl Oskar Jeppe was
born 4 May 1860 to Joseph Jeppe and Anna Lassfolk in
Kristinestad, Finland. Charlie worked as a farmer on the family
farm and attended public schools. When Charlie was five years
old hes mother died, leaving her husband and five children.
His father later married and this second wife was a very good
stepmother. Charlie, of medium height, had blue eyes and blond
hair. He was a quiet man and liked to read, and was an excellent
penman. He emigrated to the United States from Gottenburg, Sweden,
on the Vessel Addric, arriving at the Port of New York in July 1880.
He came to the US with a cousin and they traveled across the
country to Seattle, Washington, where he became ill with pneumonia.
When ableto leave the hospital, he decided to travel to Utah and
stopped in Salt Lake City where he received work with the Denver
& Rio Grande Railroad and was sent to Woodside, Utah, to work
as a laborer with the track crew. At that time he spoke very little
English and had little money. Later he spoke flawless English.
He legally changed his name to Charles Oscar Moons. Woodside
is a small farming community on the main line of the railroad. He
became acquainted with a young lady named Phoebe Jeanette
Randall. They kept company for some time, then when Charlie was
sent out of town to work they corresponded. In one of his letters he
proposed marriage, she accepted, and they were married 12 Dec 1890
in Grand Junction, Colorado. They made their home at Woodsied, Utah,
until Charlie was transferred and moved to several small towns. Their
first child, Edna, was born 14 Nov 1892 at Provo, Utah. Erma Lucile
came next, born 10 Jan 1897, at Nephi, Utah. Celestine was born
23 March 1899 at Provo, Utah. Their son Cleon was born at Colton,
Utah, 25 Nov 1903. Charlie became a Roadmaster on the railroad.
He was sent to Green River, Emery Co., Utah, and his division was
from Green River to Helper Utah. Charlie retired from his job as
Roadmaster on the railroad where he had worked more than 45 years.
He and Phoebe moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. Charlie became ill
with cancer the summer of 1928 and died 1 Nov 1929 at home with
 all his family around him.
