Note: Rulemaker. As English law at that time prohibited the marrying of brother-in-law to sister-in-law, William was not married to Eliza Moore though they appeared as man and wife in the relevent census records.
William was the subject of an attempted highway robbery as reported in The Times 2 August 1868. This described William as a respectable tradesman. He was set upon by six ruffians, thrown down and brutally kicked well nigh insensible. "Though he had a large sum of money in his possession at the time, and a valuable gold watch and chain, which the thieves were intent upon having, he fortunately succeeded in resisting them so far as to keep his property intact"
Though he was christened and married as William Ransley, he died as William Walter Ransley.
