a. Note:   George's parentage is unsure. His marriage certificate states that his father was William Ransley a labourer.
 1881, 1891 & 1901 Census listings state that he was born in Brighton in 1836/7.
  William Marshall Ransley a labourer was the only William Ransley living in Brighton around 1835. William Ransley and Mary Sealey had a son George born 1817 who died at an early age.
  However this George Ransley does not appear in any Census listings before he was married, which would indicate that he was brought up by someone other than William under a different surname. This would further suggest that he was the product of an extra marital affair.
