FatherRankin was born in Airdrie, Scotland, Feb 17, 1801, and came tothis country in 1832 - 1834 accompanied by three brothers, twoof whom, we believe, are still living. He was a fine specimenof that steadfast love of principle which so often inheres tothe Scotch blood. This made him an abolitionist in the earlydays of that agitation; and a firm consistent, believer in thedoctrines of the bible as he read it. Religion, politics, andeveryday living were one with him, and these made him first astrictly honest man, an earnest man, and in his day an activeworker in each of these fields. He has gone to his rest and wedoubt not, to the reward of his christian fidelity. The funeralservices were held on Tuesday last, the Masonic fraternitydirecting. The sermon was preached by Rev. Wm.
