a. Note:   No record has been found for Mary's baptism, which may have been in Hampshire as there are a number of Lovells within the county. Alternatively, she may have been baptised at Christchurch St Leonard Foster, Newgate Street, London, most of whose registers were destroyed by enemy action in World War II. There are also many Lovells in London, and as Mary is also a common name it is impossible to identify her with any certainty, unless we can prove a Durdell or Carlton connection. Could be sister of Mrs.Elizabeth Garell, of Stepney, who was left the entire estate of Mrs Elizabeth Durdell . In the 1841 census William & Mary both claimed to have been born in Middlesex, William was not, Mary probably was not either. There are a number of Lovells in Hamshire. Mary died on 28th december 1850 aged 77, of athsma, the same as her husband. Her death was recorded by her son Joseph.
