a. Note:   N3277 revised July 1994 by Bob and Tootie Schidler. *nickname "Pokie"
has a bad heart and is diabetic.
   Nov 22, 2003 from Linda:
morning to all of you. Tootie and Bob and their faimly are not ready to let go of Pokies body. They hope she will be able to survive, all of Pokie's organs and her brain were deprived of oxygen for a long time.
Pokie's body is being kept alive by machines and meds. Today she will go
through kidney dyalisis. I plan to go to see the family today. With the
help and good council of a minster friend , I will try to be a tool to help the family get centered and find their spiritual energy so they can figure out what step must come next. Please send positvie healing energy thoughts to them . LB
22 Nov. 2003 from Dick Lauk
Betty went to the hospital this afternoon. Nothing new to report on Pokie. She is being kept alive by life support machines. They had her on dialysis and were taking other tests(?) and wouldn't have the results for 12 hours. I guess there is no hope for Pokie so I don't know why they are doing all the tests etc..
Tootie has been at hospital since it happened but Bob goes home at night. Betty talked to Bob for quite awhile and said he looks good and was walking with a cane.
22 Nov 2003 from Linda Schidler Benton:
I just called the hospital and talked to Jinny. There is no change. The
method of dialysis is slower than usually used. I was with the family when
one of the doctor's came to talk to them. The doctors are all saying
Pokie's chance of survival is very , very slim. Each test and procedure
puts her already compromised organs into jeopardy. The dialysis was
started at 1:00 this afternoon. Each time the family hears the doctors said
Pokie won't make it they bocome very emotional, but as time passes and
Pokie does not take her last breath, hope returns and they forget what the
doctors have said. and so the roller coasters highs and lows. The family
is going from one extreme to the other. Tootie's daughter Cindy is an RN
and has also been a hospice nurse. She is able to hear what has been said
and asks pertinent questions. She is the calm. Pokie is now a no code
because the procedures to bring her back would do more damage to her body
and once again the vitual organs would be deprived of oxygen. The lounge
where the family congregates is large but not large enough so some of the
grandkids and the greatgrandkids sit on the floor in the hall. Carol said
their are 69 of them at Thanks giving . Thursday as Pokie's sibling were
rushing to St.E's Ralph's daughter Amy 's water broke and she drove herself
to Bryan hospital . She delivered a beauitful baby girl thursday evening.
Amy and her husband plus the new baby were at the hospital this afternoon.
My friend Chris said sometimes it takes the soul days to totally leave the
body. Pokie's pupils are fixed and dialated. Her hands and feet are like
ice and her head is perspiring. I 'm sure I have forgotten something but
I'll write again as I get news. The phone number of the loung is 402
219-7693 if you can first ask to talk to Cindy, Jinny ,Jane, or Carol
one of them is usually in the lounge then they will get Tootie for you.
Thankyou all for the energy sent . They can use more. whatever energy
you can send is recieved. Love LB
  23 Nov 2003 from Linda:
morning news from St. Elizabeth. The dialysis did not help Pokie . She
was given 9 units of blood durning the night and that too did not help .
The family is in consensus that it is time to remove the machines and let
Pokie's body finish this job of letting go. There are two choices 1. to
take her body off everything and it would take just minuets. or 2. to leave
the resparator connected then it would take several hours. Doctors and
nursing staff wisely say goodbyes are in order. Jane didn't know what
Pokie's husband Randy had decided for sure. Tootie's tears continue to
 flow, letting go is hard.
Being with the family yesterday was a exprience I will never forget. The
emotions could be tears one moment and then laughter, hugs, eating, quiet
discussion, remembering good times and for the guys football images on TV.
This family knows how to grieve and support each other . Those of us from
smaller clans might feel envious. Hopefully we can embrace our smaller
clans . That is our way this time. PEACE FOR NOW LB
  26 Nov 2003 from Linda:
