"Bob" Jones was a well liked and respected medical professional who served the people of the Cedartown and Polk County area for many years. A Louisiana native, he was gregarious and fun-loving and had many friends and associates within the community. He worked as an anesthetist at Polk General Hospital in Cedartown and at the local hospitals in Rockmart and in Piedmont and Centre, Alabama. Robert Herman Jones was the fourth child of six children born to Arthur Osban Jones and Claudia Alexander on July 1, 1931 in Simsboro, Louisiana. His father, Arthur, was a hard working farmer and devout Baptist. He was very knowledgeable on a variety of subjects, especially the bible and the historical geography associated with it. His interesting personality and penchant for storytelling was enjoyed by his family greatly in later years. Arthur (1897-1986) and Claudia (1904-1990) are buried at Walnut Creek Baptist Church, which lies across the road from their home. Bob went on to serve in the medical corps in the Korean War. He served on the front lines and saw the pain of the wounded and resolved to study anesthetics. He first studied at Northwestern State College in Natchitoches, Louisiana but then went on to graduate from the Sacred Heart Hospital School of Anesthesia at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. While there he married Dale Harper. They had two daughters, Bonita Louise (b. March 6, 1958) and Robin Denise (b. February 15, 1960). He located to Cedartown where he began his anesthesia practice. He was selected as Young Man of the Year for the Cedartown Jaycees in 1962, and later served as a representative of the Northwest Georgia Regional Health Advisory Council and as a member of the Governor's Health Care Committee. He later married Jimmie Elaine Rowell in 1968 and had one son, Robert Bradley Jones, b. July 24, 1972. Brad went on to graduate from Cedartown High School in 1990 and from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor's of Landscape Architecture degree in 1995. He now lives and works in the Atlanta area. Bob Jones died May 28,1985, leaving behind many friends and family members. He was buried near his parents at Walnut Creek Cemetery in Simsboro. Many Cedartown citizens still fondly remember his medical service to the communities he worked in.
