Note: # 34573- born to parents Marian Ruth Brier-Miller and Edwin C. Miller of 177 W 99th, Manhattan, NYC, NY. Father- age 26, electrician, Mother- age 24, housewife. Moved to Oakland, Alameda Co, CA with parents sometime between 1921-1926. SS # issued there. Listed on the 1930 Oakland, Alameda Co., CA Census as Edwin B. Miller, age 9, had attended school since 9/1/1929, NY/KS/NY. He joined the Navy at age 18 (about 1939) and served until he retired in the 1970's. Early in his military career, Ed was stationed on Midway, about 4 months before the war. He stayed there until June 1942 (10 months), and was there for the Battle of Midway. Marriage License: Edwin Bartley Miller native of New York, aged 21 years, a resident of Emeryville, Alameda Co., CA and Emily Rose Dettmer, native of CA, aged 20 years, a resident of Oakland, Alameda Co., CA. Dated 6/18/1943. Marriage Certificate (bottom of same paper) signed by Lutheran Pastor stated that Edwin Bartley Miller and Emily Rose Dettmer were married 6/26/1943 in Oakland. Witnessed by Robert Emparon and Florence Dettmer (both residents of Oakland, Alameda Co., CA). Certificate signed 6/27/1943- Geo (rest of name cut off from copy.) Retired from the US Navy in July 1978. Death Certificate: Reno, Washoe Co., Nevada. Edwin Bartley Miller died at V.A. Hospital in Reno, age 76, born 7/25/1921 in New York, died 1/6/1998 hour-1054, resided at 206 Sandy Way, Dayton, Lyon Co., Nevada. U.S. Navy Captain. Colorectal Cancer with mets to liver- for 6 years. Cremated- FitzHenry's Funeral Home, Carson City, Nevada. No. 125792, certified 1/8/1998, signed by State Registar 1/16/1998.
