Note:   (Research):The following are research results of Mrs Mary LOWE: Arthur (the Governor) and his family had left England on a ship bound for Australia, however the journey had to terminate at Maritius, and waft (waited) there for 4 months for another ship the "Adrian" to pick him up. During this time Mary Ann became pregnant and arrived in Tasmania as such. With her as a nursemaid was Alice Liddell, another lass from Cornwall. And in Tas. was Edward FRENCH, convict, also from St Winnow, Cornwall, and in 1824 with a ticket of leave, which had been granted on 16/1/1819, Edward worked the next farm to Samuel SHERLOCK at Norfolk Plains. End === It is suggested you read notes attached to Mary Ann SHERLOCK (nee: FRENCH). === Mary Ann FRENCH (TASP 135431) married to Thomas HUNT according to Tasmanian Archive record's, (take with a pinch of salt ? TASP 181200), and Frances is shown in (TASP 158094) as being born in 1824; http://portal.archives.tas.gov.au/menu.aspx?detail=1&type=P&id=135431 Colonial Tasmanian Family Links Detail for explanation of symbols see after Fathers name HUNT, Frances Gender: Female Birth 1824 - LAUNCESTON,Tasmania [c] Parents: 135431 FRENCH MARY ANN HUNT THOMAS [c] indicates that data is derived from christening/baptism records; date (year) derived from christening/baptism records; There are entries showing Frances as a HUNT at birth, there is a record for a William HUNT who died 1923/4 in the recorded in the Tasmanian Archives; === Name shown as Frances SHERLOCK and Frances French SHERLOCK ?; So what information do we have?: 1/ 2/ TASP 158094 Frances born 1824 and recorded/shown as Frances HUNT; 3/ Vic BDM 1824/5 (BIRTH) HUNT Frances, f: Thomas, m: Mary Ann FRENCH *no middle name*; 4/ NSW BDM V1841834 25C/1841 WIGNELL WILLIAM to Frances SHERLOCK; 5/ Frances French in marriage regist record number 4428 1841, district ME (= Melbourne); 6/ NSW Death: 4350/1861 (DEATH) WIGNELL Frances Hunt, another confusing entry in NSW BDM Death where recorded her father as Samuel, under mothers name/s heading is "died Patricks Plains", the district Patrick Downs is where Frances died (murdered), Question's raised by above (some) are: If there was not a connection with HUNT ?, If not why was Frances given that middle name ?, Was in fact Frances the child of Thomas concieved prior to his death ?, Still don't have death details of Thomas ?, Did Mary Ann came to Van Diemans Land to raise yet unborn child ?, Date Mary Ann left England ?.
b. Note:   DI15865
Note:   The Coroner, (Henry GLENNIE), reported that Frances Hunt WIGNELL formerly SHERLOCK died as the result of "Violence received from the hands of John HALPEN" at Warwick, NSW.
c. Note:   XI15865

d. Note:   NF2244
Note:   marriage registration is shown in the NSW marriage register as well as the Victorian mariage register; V1841834 25C/1841 WIGNELL William married SHERLOCK Frances F registered: ME, (ME stand for Melbourne), Frances was 17yrs old at time she and William were married. Vic Pioneer Index 1836-88 no: 4428 Francis French SHERLOCK married to William WIGNELL is also shows Frances as having her mother Mary Ann's maiden name FRENCH as her own middle given name, this would appear to be the first document that has been discovered to date showing Frances as having a second given name?, we know FRENCH was Mary Ann's maiden name so it's would not be hard to see how records may have been incorrectly entered or transcribed but for the fact that the NSW registration also show a second name even if only "F'" not "French" ?, perhaps because of space restrictions ?.
