Notes
a. Note:   N10280 Cyrus was a Lumberman and Farmer in the Kent County area of Ontario. Quinn Post Office, 9th Concession and King and Whittle sideroad, Tilbury East Township, Kent County, Ontario. When Cyrus's brother Dr. Joseph Rymal Smith was practicing Medicine in Conewango Valley (about 50 miles south of Buffalo) he heard of a saw-mill for sale in Frewsburgh New York. Cyrus's lumbering operation was coming to an end in Kent County. He had exhausted the tributary stands of timber. His farming operations were expanding but was worried about a High School education for his family. At this point Uncle Harold had already been away for a year at school and my Grand Father Reg was quickly approaching that same stage in his life. Cyrus did in fact purchase that Mill in Frewsburgh and his family lived there for abour 2 years. As a business it didn't really work out, his health suffered and the family returned to to their farm in Kent County. 2 He bought a lumbermill from S.C. Zimmerman 2 March, 1909 in Harrow,ON. He modernized with better machinery in 1914, but it was destroyed by fire in 1916. He rebuilt in cement block and more modern machinery was purchased, operated by electric power. A lumberyard continued there until 1991 owned by different operators.
