TJADE VAN GERPEN Mrs. Tjade Van Gerpen nee Geerdes was born July 27, 1843, in Groothusen, Germany. and died February 4th ,1920, aged 76 years, 6 months and 8 days, In 1866 she was united in marriage with Daniel Janssen Van Gerpen. This union was blessed with eleven children, five sons and six daughters, of whom three sons and five daughters remain to mourn the loss of a kind and loving mother. Those remaining are; Mrs. L. Landheer and John Van Gerpen of Buffalo Center, Iowa; Mrs. A. Sweers and Mrs. Claus Groenhoff of Alden, Iowa; George Van Gerpen of Avon, South Dakota; Mrs. Ben Lindaman of Bristow, Iowa; Mrs. Henry Busse of Aplington, Iowa, and William Van Gerpen of Denver, Colorado. Her husband and two sons preceded her into the great beyond. Besides the above named children, she is survived by twenty-six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In 1882, the family came to ths county and lived at Florence Station, Illinois. In 1891, they moved to a farm near Alden, Iowa, and the last thirteen years, she lived in Aplington. She was converted in her youth and joined the Baptist church, of which church she was a faithful member up to the time of her death. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church on Friday afternoon, February 6th, and the remains were taken to Alden, Iowa, Saturday to be interred by the side of her husband. Those from out of town, attending the services were; A. Sweers and wife; C. Groenhoff and wife and daughter Vera; Daniel, Louise and Martha Landheer; Henry Harms; John Henzeroth; all of Alden, Iowa; John Van Gerpen and wife; L. Landheer, wife and daughter Arda; John Feldick and wife and wife; all of Buffalo Center, Iowa; Ben Lindaman and wife of Bristow; George Van Gerpen, wife and son Clarence of Avon, South Dakota, and William Van Gerpen of Denver, Colorado.
