a. Note:   Many researchers have Gertie Lea as buried in the Family Plot on the Matthew James Spivey farm. She is NOT.
  During the later years of Joseph Dalton's life, so much of his energy was wasted in a dispute with his brother, Cephus Alton, over the boundaries of the family farm. When he died, Gertie Lea had him buried on the land he loved. However, she said that she would never be buried on the farm, because it had too many bad memories for her.
 With respect to her wishes, she was buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Highway 701, East Tabor City, Columbus County, North Carolina.
