Note: Drowned. A very unfortunate occurrence happened near Stanto n in the Marais des Cygnes river on Friday evening last, i n the drowning of John W. Day a nephew of John D. Day of St aton He and a number of others were fishing. Some walnut sa wlogs came floating by in the river and Mr. Day and Mr. Hir am Skinner each attempted to catch a log. Mr. Day got o n a log and being unable to control Its course was being ra pidly carried into a drift, jumped from the log. He came t o the surface once and then sunk. He was a good swimmer, an d it is supposed that he either hurt himself in jumping of f the log, or took a severe cramp which disabled him.
