Notes
a. Note:   Notes: Emigrated 1860; have found no record of immigration to United States. Found a Sebastian Spansail that emigrated in 1860 (b. about 1837; arrived 5 Mar 1860; departed LeHarve, France; origin Baden; Ship Mercury), but no (Johan or John) George Spansail. Sebastian would have been an older brother, but he claims to have emigrated in 1890. If the Sebastian in 1860 immigration was actually George, why did he lie about the name? George's brother Jacob, who emigrated in 1851, sent George passage money and he (George) emigrated in 1860 (per affidavit in pension file).
DEATH: While on train guard duty, George was thrown/fell from the top of freight train cars bound from Nashville, Tennessee to Stevenson, Alabama. The fall "crushed in the top of his head and bruised the neck and spine at the foot of the head". "He died within a short time thereafter at Murfreesboro, Tenn. from the effects of such injury."
