a. Note:   Notes: According to affidavits contained in the Civil War Pension File for son George Spansail, Jacob Spansail (Sr.) left the family in Germany and emigrated to the United States in 1851. He became "dessolute and dissipated", and died the last of October or first of November, 1856 in or near Detroit, Michigan. His wife Elizabeth claimed he "abandoned her and failed to support her in the year 1851 and that she never had any support from him thereafter".
