a. Note:   Sarah used the name Sally. The Akerley family Bible shows her date of birth as July 15, 1803. The birth date shown elsewhere was calculated from her gravestone inscription which states she died Nov 30, 1878, at the age of 75 years, 4 months, and 16 days. There is a one day variation in how people calculated age at death and a one day variation in how people calculated birth date from date of death and age at death. These variations could have resulted in the one day discrepancy noted here.
  When Sarah Akerley was born, Mayfield was part of Montgomery County, NY. Therefore, her 1855 census record gives her place of birth as Montgomery County which it was when she was born.
  An article titled "Roger Barton of Westchester County, N.Y., and Some of His Earlier Descendants," by George E. McCracken was published in The New England Historical and Genealogical Register (NEHGR) in serial form in 1952-1953. The October, 1953, issue, page 303, stated that Sally Akerley, wife of Joseph Barton, was born in Montgomery County, NY. Actually, she was born in the town of Mayfield. When Sally was born, Mayfield was in Montgomery County, NY. Later, that part of Mongtomery County became part of Fulton County, NY. Therefore, we use Fulton County in this file. The NEHGR article also states that Sally died in Yucatan, Houston County, Minnesota. That is an error. She died in Fillmore County, MN. This is an important detail because her death record is in Fillmore County. It shows her parents as Smith and Rachel (no surnames shown), proving that the mother of Smith Akerley's children was Rachel, not Ann Dorcas who shows up in some old files.
