Notes
a. Note:   Mac was a man before his time. College educated in both Iowa and Pamona in California, he met Essie in Houston. She was a waitress and he was a travelling salesman during the depression. After their marriage in Mena, Arkansas they lived with Ralph and Allie McConnaughey in Denison for a short while prior to migrating to Seattle where Aunt Ada Sewell Kipp lived. Terry resided with Grandma and Grandpa Martin until they were settled. They resided in Seattle in several different communities through the births of Helen and Vicky until the War.
During WWII the family moved to Prince Rupert, BC Canada where Mac served in the Merchant Marine. Back in Seattle after the war, Mac found Talache, Idaho, his dream of all time. Once one of the largest silver producers in the US, Talache was abandonned when the price of silver fell and was a virtual ghost town except for a squatter by the name we called him, "Old Fitz" who had some claims of his own.
Mac and investors purchased Talache for 1 million dollars and converted the old mine town into Talache Lodge Resort. The family remained in Talache until purchasing a home in Sandpoint, Idaho, Bonner County Seat in 1951. Mac continued to look after his interests of Talache which included the Silver Butte Mine. The resort had closed and the lodge had burned by the time Silver Butte began its operations in the 1960's.
In addition to Silver Butte, Mac owned and operated McConnaughey Motors, was a realtor, a county real estate appraiser, and a master hunter and fisherman. He was a devoted father to all seven children that he raised.
