Notes
a. Note:   e gathered during my Family history course.
She was born on 12 July 1922 in Southend on Sea. Her mother, Fanny Frances Field, is named on her birth certificate but not her father. From her Barnardos records her father's name was Albert Malcom Parkes, but her parents were not married and apparently both deserted her as a young child.
As a child she lived with a Mrs E Cook in 2 Portland Ave Southend on Sea, but I am not sure yet how she is related to her, then at the age of 13 years was sent to a Dr Barnardos home in Felixstowe, where she stayed for 3 years, then going into service in 1938, for 2 years, in a place called Hermene de Sterne Convalescent Home, Felixstowe, then joining the Women's Auxiliary Territorial Service in 1940. In1942 she met, then in 1943, married my father Stephen Roose who was also in the Army and moved to live in Rhyl.
Mum was a very hard working and independant person. As Dad was continually ill with a bad chest and was ofen in and out of hospital Mum held the family together and worked hard all her life. When we were small she worked in a small factory making aprons. She was an excellent self-taught dressmaker, making all our clothes. She also made curtains for a local shop, Household textiles for a number of years. She made my wedding dress and the bridesmaids dressess as well as her own outfit. She then went on to make many bridal dresses and bridesmaids dressess for local brides.
After dad died in 1972 she woked in Palmers Shoe shop in the Rhyl High Street, then in 1976 she went to live in Canada as a housekeeper for a family called Baghai and they treated her as one of the family. They were a lovely family and after Mum's death we went to Canada to visit them in 1999. She stayed with them for 9 years and had a wonderful life which we we were all pleased for her as she deserved it after the hard life she had had. After she came home she was poorly and only lived for 2 years and sadly passed away with lung cancer, her being a constant smoker since she was young.
Whilst living in Canada Mum changed her religion to the "Bahai" faith. As instructed by her, she was buried as a Bahai.
Note:   Mum would never talk about her childhood so what I found out is from information that I hav
